What is a prosthodontist

Both hold dental degrees. The difference is three more years of training, and the cases that training is for.

Prosthodontist

Dr. Ben Tindal, DMD, MS
Born and raised in northern Indiana, he moved to Florida with his family just before his senior year. He describes dentistry as a blend of art, science and engineering, and nothing matters more to him than the moment a patient sees their new smile for the first time.

Your first visit
Three steps before any treatment.
It takes a little more time than a typical dental office trying to get patients in and out, and we find patients appreciate the extra one-on-one attention.
Initial consultation
Before you ever sit in the dental chair, you meet Dr. Tindal and the team and take a tour of the office. Then you sit down together to talk through your medical history, your concerns, and whether you want to maintain, restore or upgrade your smile.
Comprehensive evaluation
Teeth, gums, jaw, bite and existing restorations, with diagnostic images and x-rays. Dr. Tindal puts together a short presentation of what is going on and always gives you multiple options, so the final decision is yours.
Start treatment
It begins with a thorough cleaning from our hygienist to get teeth and gums back to baseline. Then Dr. Tindal carries out the plan you decided on together, and you can ask for adjustments at any time.

Consultations cost $150, and that is applied towards your treatment once it starts.

Every patient is paired with our treatment coordinator, who is with you throughout the process. You learn exactly what to expect, without surprise fees.
Sedation dentistry
Nervous? Say so. There are options.
Sedation can help you relax through routine or extensive work, and it can let several procedures be completed in fewer appointments.
Laughing gas
Breathed through a small nasal mask. Dr. Tindal adjusts it through the appointment, and it wears off almost as soon as the mask comes off.
Oral conscious sedation
A prescribed medication taken beforehand. You stay awake and able to talk, but may not remember much. Someone will need to drive you.

Do I need a referral to see a prosthodontist?
No. Many of Dr. Tindal's patients are referred by their general dentist for complex restorative cases, but the practice is always happy to welcome new patients directly. Call (941) 225-2520 to book a consultation.
How much does a consultation cost?
Consultations cost $150, and that is applied towards your treatment once it starts. It includes an oral examination, an x-ray examination, a review of your treatment options and a treatment plan.
What is the difference between a general dentist and a prosthodontist?
Both hold dental degrees. After dental school a prosthodontist completes an additional three years of advanced training in restoring and replacing teeth: implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures and full-mouth rehabilitation. General dentists are the primary providers of routine care; prosthodontists take on the complex cases.
Is getting a dental bridge painful?
Your mouth is numbed with a local anesthetic before the teeth are prepared, so you should not feel discomfort during the procedure. The supporting teeth usually feel sensitive for a few days afterwards, which over-the-counter pain relievers manage. Call us if the discomfort gets worse.
I get nervous at the dentist. Can I be sedated?
Yes. Laughing gas is inhaled through a small nasal mask and wears off almost as soon as the mask is removed, so you can go straight back to your day. Oral conscious sedation is a prescribed medication taken before the appointment: you stay awake, but you will need someone to drive you to and from the visit.
Can I spread the cost of treatment?
